Turbo Tax Warning

When using Turbo Tax, be sure to read EVERYTHING, even the fine print. In the beginning, it will tell you that you will pay $29.95 for the deluxe version, for example, but what it wont tell you is how much it cost to have that price deducted from you tax return until the END.

If you happen to not see that additional $29.95 charge, well, you're SOL.

Use a credit card, or you're check card to pay for the software and save yourself $29.95! That's how much it cost for the convince of not having to type in your 16 digit credit card number! Is this insane or is it just me? It's like bank's charging $2 - $3.50+ for using an ATM to get your money out... it costs the banks less than $.05 to process that transaction.

Driving on the Highway

I don't understand why we don't teach our children how to drive properly. It's obvious to me that we haven't been teaching people how to be good drivers all these years because of the way people drive on the highway today. You see, they used to have this class in school called Drivers Ed... you know, the one you always took naps in? Yeah, you take this class to get drive time which you need to get your license and while doing so, learn how to drive. Take a few tests, which the answers are given to you buy the instructor, then pass with flying colors having not learned a single thing from the class. This used to be the way when I was in school. The other alternative was you wait till later and you take it from another source like Sears driving school or the other hundred other driving schools out there.

With all this preparation available for these kids hitting the road, you would think they would be hitting the road with a good background of how to drive properly, safely and courteously.

For example; why would anyone drive on the left-most lane and make people pass them on the right? Did you know that you would get a ticket for doing that in Germany? See, other countries take the time & effort, and require people to learn how to drive properly, then they enforce it! It's like a FFA where I'm from.

Thats why I think we need an autobahn like Germany... When you have a Porsche going 200mph run into the back of the idiot that is going 55 in a 70 in the left hand lane on a major freeway a few times, I bet people will get the hell out of that lane when they shouldn't be in it!

My idea; install snow scoop like devices on the front of all cars so we can scoop the idiots off the road. So when other people drive by they can see this idiot in his car upside down on the side of the road. They will be thinking to themselves, "Guess that idiot was going too slow in the passing lane! I better not get in the damn way!" Think of how much nicer it would be to drive on the highways.

To the parents of up and coming kids... teach them proper driving if you know how. Otherwise, teach them how to turn their car back over when they get scooped off the road.

Austin Housing Market

Despite the current trend in the Housing Market, the housing market is Austin has increased! If you can find a house for $100 per sq foot in Austin, your doing good. East Austin is even better, at prices well below $100 a sq foot.

Now is the time to buy up those houses that are within 30 mins from Austin that are in that are well below that price range. If you can find a HUD home for say 130k that is 1700+ sq foot, put 10k into repairs, paint, carpet, etc... you can make 20k in a month! There are a lot of homes in the Cedar park, Roundrock area that are HUD foreclosed homes and can be flipped fast and easy.

Look for those diamonds in the rough... Some areas of Austin are up and coming, like Anderson Mill area. You have a lot of older homes there that are being scooped up, fixed up and flipped for big bucks. This is a hot area for doing this because of its close location to Austin and its retail development that has been coming to that area.

One of the hottest areas right now is the Bee Caves/71 area where the new Galleria Mall has gone in. You can get $150 a sq foot in this area. The taxes in this area are fairly low and the city has a surplus of funds which means that property taxes in this area will not go up anytime soon. With the new galleria mall, the retail market will start booming and the taxes from that will help this part of town grow fast. Expect big changes in this area of Austin over the next 5 years.

Lago Vista! This area is beautiful. The retail market is coming in, developers are building, and land values are going up. Homes in this area go for $100 a sq foot and up. Expect prices in this area to grow 5% - 10% a year. Good investment area.
